How our guides are made

Our numbers come from real bookings

Every ranking you see — the best photo spots in a city, the most-booked packages, buy rates — is computed from actual photoshoots booked and delivered through Smiler, not from opinion or scraped lists.

We only publish a statistic when the sample is large enough to mean something. Cities where we don’t yet have enough shoots get guides without rankings or percentages — practical advice only, no numbers we can’t stand behind.

Prices and data stay live

Price tables, spot rankings, review excerpts and statistics inside our guides are not written into the text — they are pulled from our live catalog and booking database every time the page is read. When a package price changes, every guide that mentions it updates the same moment.

Written prose that references a starting price is rewritten server-side against the current catalog, so a guide can’t quote a price you can’t actually book.

Local photographers verify the local facts

Insider tips and location advice in our guides are attributed to named Smiler photographers who work in that city. A tip only carries a photographer’s name after it has been confirmed with them — we never put words in anyone’s mouth.

Guides display a “Verified by” byline linking to the photographer’s profile, so you can see who stands behind the local knowledge on the page.

Humans review everything before it goes live

We use internal tools to help draft guide text, constrained to facts from our own booking data and verified photographer input. Drafts then pass automated fact gates (every price must exist in our catalog, no unverifiable claims) and a human editorial review.

Nothing publishes automatically. Every guide goes live only after a member of our editorial team reads it and presses publish.

Independence

Smiler is the marketplace — our guides link to photoshoots bookable on Smiler, and the prices shown are exactly what you pay. We don’t run affiliate links, sponsored placements, or pay-to-rank spots in any guide. Photographer rankings and spot rankings cannot be bought.

Corrections

Spotted something wrong — a price, a fact about a location, an attribution? Email bookings@joinsmiler.com and we’ll check it against our data and correct the page. Because most figures in our guides are computed live, data errors are usually fixed at the source — which corrects every page that used them at once.
